Working from Home?

Due to the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) guidelines from the government to work from home as much as possible, we’re doing this ourselves and there is a lot we can do to help you…

Can you help us/me access my work computer?

Yes! As with most aspects of IT there are many ways to connect to your work PCs. We can discuss your current office and home setup, recommend the most reliable plus cost effective solution to get you up and running as quickly as possible.

I don’t have a work computer to access remotely, I get my files from a NAS or server, can you help me access those?

Yes! We would need to have a chat with you to first of all to understand your current setup so we can then recommend the best way forward for yourself or your staff. As mentioned previously there are many different ways of accessing your data externally. Give us a call and  we’ll ask you a few questions so we can get your business running again.

I’m at home working, what can I do about my work/office landline number?

We’re not a telephone system provider but we can recommend the phone system and hardware that we’ve been using for over 10 years. It will get you working from home just as you do at work with free internal calls, works with your existing landline number so you can answer calls from home. You can also set up call queuing and business hours so when your business day ends the calls can be routed to a message service. The phones just connect to your home router with a normal PC network cable. As simple as that to take home! We’ve helped setup many of our clients with this system.

I need to share files with my colleagues and we’re all working from home, how do I do this?

If you don’t have a server or storage currently in place for sharing files and applications a combination of SharePoint and possibly OneDrive is a system to look at. SharePoint allows you to share files like word documents and PDFs etc between multiple computers even if you’re all at home. SharePoint is generally included free with Office 365 (depending on the licenses you have).

So we can help you: –

  • share email addresses between computers
  • share word files/excel files between computers at different locations
  • share email between devices
  • access your SharePoint files on tablets/phones, we can even give you access to your documents/pictures and desktop folders and files from multiple computers including tablets and phones.

You can even work on the same Microsoft Word files at the same time at different locations and see the text appearing as your colleague is typing!

Okay… I have remote access to my files and email, are there any recommendations while working from home?

BACKUP EVERYTHING!
Don’t fall into the habit of saving things locally to your home laptop or PC, meaning if something goes wrong it can be hard or impossible to recover.

STAY SECURE
Cybercriminals are exploiting the recent outbreak through phishing emails, so an effective security service is crucial during these times.

MANAGE DATA
Depending on the solution you are using we’d recommend storing your files within your company network still so that your normal backups take place.

KEEP COMMUNICATING
Whether it’s Microsoft Teams, Zoom, email or other channels, communicating with colleagues is essential. We can help you keep in touch with your colleagues and clients.
